30 Day Horror Challenge Strikes Back Day 13: Character you would want to swap clothes with.

I’ve never been what anyone would call fashion conscious. Ninety nine percent of the time you’ll see me in a horror t-shirt, usually with the sleeves removed, a pair of black cut off jeans, and either sandals or boots. Not exactly a sharp dressed man. I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about my wardrobe, so this question was kinda tough. There’s really no one I’ve looked at in my main horror watching years and thought “I sure with I could trade wardrobes with him!” When I was a kid, however, there was one guy that I thought was the coolest looking dude walking the planet and I wished I could look like that.

I’m honestly not sure where or when I first saw David, Kiefer Sutherland’s character in The Lost Boys. I’m sure I saw pictures way before I saw the movie. I was mesmerized. He was menacing. He was cool. He was counterculture. He was everything I wanted to be. The all black attire with the trench coat was AWESOME! The rest of the crew was a little out there for me, but I wanted Kiefer’s look. Hell, mullets were cool at the time. They are the butt of jokes today, but if you go back and watch the flick, he pulls it off. That’s because he owns it. The swagger makes it cool. As for strictly clothing though, he’s actually the only one of the Lost Boys that wouldn’t look absolutely ridiculous today.

When I was thinking about what to pick for this question, a thought popped into my mind. When I became a teenager, I wore a black trench coat all the time. I wore nothing but black. Luckily, by that time I didn’t have my mullet any more. I never thought of it at the time, but that look may have been ingrained in my mind by that flick. I wonder how many kids of my generation’s first thought of “Man, I would look bad ass in a black trench coat” came from David in The Lost Boys. I think it may have had a definite subconscious effect on my later fashion choices. Wow, I just learned something about myself. I still wear all black, but the trench coat has given way to the hoodie. I will never forget, however, wanting to look like Kiefer so bad. Wow, I can’t believe I just posted an article about fashion on this blog. Just forget any of this ever happened.

I'm not so sure about swapping clothes with them but I have to give props to the design of some of the cenobites' outfits. Particularly Pinhead's. That was a huge gamble putting him in what might be considered a black leather dress. If it didn't work, he'd have been laughed off the screen but strangely enough, Doug Bradley wears it well. There is some interesting detail in that cenobite design. The smaller two fingers gloved. The the strips torn out from the front to show gore underneath. The rack of torture devices just hanging there, forever at the ready. The only time he grabbed one was right before his Channard demise. I would have enjoyed a Pinhead scene where he may have took one off his belt and use it instead of summoning chains, although that aspect was always cool too. But I'm getting off topic here....

Yeah, the black leather looks great. Say what you will about the Nazis, those nutballz had great style. Leather trenchcoats for infantrymen? Jesus Lord God, how cool. Get rid of the skull and crossbones on the officers and they looked sweet too. Ahh, fuck it, its been long enough, keep the skull and crossbones. I'd just like to throw in the obligatory "not a fan of the nazis or holocaust" here. I'm merely commenting on style of dress, dig?
